What’s in your make up?

We know it  is best to eat healthily – to buy eat lots of fruit and vegetables, getting the right proteins and vitamins in our diet, we even make efforts to use eco-friendly cleaning products around the home an cosmetics that haven’t been tested on animals. But hands up – how many of us know about the ingredients contained in our everyday essential – make-up?

Often, make-up can contain a whole host of nasty surprises such as Parabens – Used to extend a products shelf life by preventing bacterial growth, which can be absorbed through the skin when lotions and creams are applied; Sodium Laurel Sulphate (SLS) which started out as an industrial degreaser: or Petroleum based ingredients – lierally derived from mineral oil (which tends to dry out the skin).

Most lipsticks are made using paraffin wax and some may even contain lead which can cause cancer if it enters the bloodstream. We took lead from petrol out years ago and we replace lead water pipes but some mainstream cosmetic companies still use lead in their lipstick (some will not declare it!). Throughout life us women apply our lipsticks maybe 4-5 times a day or even more, we eat and drink with this all helps ingest the ingredients in your lipstick into your system. Just think a lifetime of using a lipstick you may ingest 5kg of paraffin wax or even 5 litres of petrol can your body cope with this.

There are many organic and mineral based products out there in the market made without using any harmful chemicals. At Pure and Gentle we are constantly researching to find products that can help your skin problems and are healthy to use so have a look at our site www.pureandgentle.com for natural make-up solutions.
